Hunter's WinAlign Alignment software provides mechanics with a tool in a computer environment that they are likely already familiar with. This Windows-based software tool allows its users to interface with a laser system that detects variance in tire positioning. However, like any other software solution, WinAlign can become corrupted. This can be the result of an attack by a computer virus or the software being installed to a damaged hard drive. Fortunately, reinstalling WinAlign is a straightforward process.
Hey guys, took over my shop today. Need to buy and alignment machine before two weeks, have fleet contracts. I have a stand by on a Accu Drive, or Accu Line, forgot the model, its a popular one that is leased to own. Its all new, bells whistles. Here is my question, I have other things I wish to buy too, so watching liquidity.
Mostly we would be doing 97-2004 models, really daily drivers, then the old classics which have to be manually entered anyways. I found a nice Hunter H111, for 2000.00 complete, minus rack. I have a rack already. Its been updated, more memory, calibrated, about 670.00 worth of work on it a month ago.
Guy got a great deal on a new Hunter with rack for 9000.00. Multi function hdd docking user manual. So how is the H111?
I cant find any info on it to read up on it. Is it user friendly, accurate? I know Hunter is the name in alignment. Or the old John Beam's. I know its an optical set up, its corded, no biggie to me. My techs are smart, and very very good at what they do. I figure if I can buy it and it does a great job, make the money off it and buy a nice new Hunter at the end of the year, and that way spend off some income as well.
Any input from people who have used it would be awesome. Accu Turn is the name your thinking of. I think it's a popular brand because of 1 reason, it's the cheapest out there. I lovingly call that brand Accu Crap.
Hunter P411 Software Update
Over the years I have used 3 Accu Turn, 3 Ammco and 1 Bear brake lathe. The first shop to get an Accu Turn brake lathe the whole shop had trouble getting a proper finish. GM specs call for something like a 180 micron finish on rotors. We had to hand finish the rotors to get the cars to stop properly. And I still have to take extra precautions to this day to make sure I get a good finish. The shop I work in now has the exact same model Accu Crap brake lathe. I've used Coats, Hunter and Accu Turn tire changers.
I've used Hunter, Accu Turn and a couple of other tire balancers. I've used Hunter, Jim Beam and Accu Turn alignment machines. 2 different models of each. My all time favorite is the Jim Bean Visualiner, that thing is slick. Hunter has the best support from what I've seen.
Never needed support from Jim Bean, so can't say how they are. Accu Turn always seems to want to just send parts. Our tire changer is down now waiting for one of us to change a switch with about 12 wires attached to it.
I have seen 1 Accu turn tech that came to work on an alignment machine. This thing was less than a year old. It had these fancy wireless heads that used rechargeable flashlight batteries. They always gave us trouble. Communication trouble and batteries going dead in the middle of the job.
Had 1 of their techs come to work on it and he seemed kind of lost. Some Accu Turn stuff is ok I guess. Some of their stuff has cost me money working on commission.
I don't work on commission now so it's not my dime anymore. I still don't like that brand. Hunter is the best IMO. But all I've ever used is them and a bear piece of crap.
20 years fixing cars 10-15 of them with under car and alignments being my main job. I've done thousands of alignments, all but a few of them on Hunter equipment. I've used the Hunter a-111 all the way through to the P411, all awesome machines.
Don't play basketball with the heads, have the calibrations done and you're good as gold. I've used an Accu-turn brake lathe at one shop. It was a total piece of crap. If their aligners are anywhere near the quality I'd sooner eat rocks than own one. Well, every piece of Hunter equipment I can afford I will buy. I called our local service rep, service mind you, not sales, to see if I could get advice on how to shop for a used Hunter.which ones are no longer serviced, updated, parts for, user friendly etc.
I told him I found a d111, and a H111 locally and what the sellers told me about it. He not ony called and explained the specs, he told me which models to shop for, look at, how to inspect, and pulled the shops history on the two I mentioned and found out that Hunter indeed did service and update. He said starting out a new shop is tight on expenses, and the H111 would do accurate readings, and show a somewhat workable image to read your adjustments, but just past its prime. He then talked an hour or so about his experiences with used, and other models of other brands, he also then said that Hunter sometimes, if a customer buys the machine new, and later trades it in for a newer one, and Hunter feels the machine is nice and well taken care of, and constant maintence by them, they will refurbish and restore it to the newest abilities. He said he had a 2006 model he just took in on a trade in, he was going to go through the computer, the circutry, sensors and upgrade them, put 2007 specs in, wipe out all previous uneccessary stuff, its a remote based system, all optical, and would sell it with a warranty, and trade in value for later, at 40% of its new cost.
I had made up my mind to just lease a new Hunter after the first hour with him because his job is service and I was not a current Hunter customer, but yet he spent his own dime answering all questions for me, and explaining what I needed to know about the differences and such. I figured that much service out of a guy that I hadnt bought from before, was a true testiment to their training and employees.
I then found out he is the service agent for my territory, which then sealed the deal. So in 2.5 weeks I will have just about a damn near new Hunter high end machine for 5600.00 A relief for me, I needed it by the end of February, and 7 cars over the last two days in the shop have had bad ball joints, ca arm issues, spring issues, tie rods, etc.
So thats 490.00 in sales if I just did a 70.00 rate for 4 wheel alignment, and thats 30 cheaper than nearest competitor. I am planning on doing them on a discount if a huge major repair bill for suspension is done first.
Otherwise, will be 15% less or so for my area. But I cant say enough about this man, so I feel comfortable handing my money to him and knowing that he will be there to help if I need it. Both of my mechanics have years of alignment experience, but he will come out and set it up and train us all as well for free too. Now my wish list is a tranny flush system, and a injector cleaning system.
Jason, it's nice to own your equipment like that, but don't rule out the leasing of it either. Sounds like a great price for that used/refurb'd piece with warranty and all, but, just thoughts here, you can always write off the expense of leasing and any service contracts for that if the overhead per month is worth it and you're doing plenty of work on that machine. True that you gotta spend it first before writing it off, but if it makes you money AND you have to UPGRADE every so often, then that may just be another way to increase profits and stay current on technology with the equipment at the same time.
Congrats man. Keep up the good work.
WinAlign 9.0 compliments alignment service The newest version of Hunter's WinAlign alignment software supports new features and capabilities that can increase profitability by speeding up alignment service and addressing new OEM service requirements. Features include:. Wheel-off adjustment, an easier and more accurate way to adjust with the wheel out of the way on more than 30% of vehicles in protection. JackDetect saves adjustment time by automatically triggering the 'jack up' mode when the vehicle is raised.
Live Ride Adjustment for Hunter DSP600 sensors lets technicians use live measurements to adjust, jounce and confirm vehicle ride height in as little as one trip around the vehicle. Cordless Remote Indicators provide live measurements in a graphic display and allow the technician to switch points to complete the alignment without having to return to the aligner console.
Hi, Please help. I bought an OLD Hunter alignment machine in the spring. It worked great for about 2 months & it died. I took the antique PC out & sent it to the computer shop we deal with. They said it was a bad motherboard & sent it back. They didn't want to get involved with something so old I guess.
The Hunter alignment repair guy said it was obsolete & I would have to upgrade to a new machine($$$$$$$$$$$$$). So.over the weekend I went up in the attic & dusted off the old pc's I had pack-ratted. I stuck another motherboard & processor in the alignment PC. It runs now but obviously with some conflicts. The only major problem I have encountered is one com port is not communicating.
The Machine has electronic keys(look like old house fuses) that need to comunicate with the PC for the alignment equipment to operate & they do this through the port that is not communicating. Is this something that will never work or can someone help me get this thing running again. Go go gourmet keygen free. I really don't have the funds to upgrade to a new machine & any help would be appreciated. FYI - that machine is not connected to the internet. Any info you will need I will have to print out or write down & type on my other computer. Thank you for any help you can give.
I almost forgot to mention, this thing is running Windows 95. If this is the wrong forum for a problem like this please let me know & maybe point me in the right direction.

If you are making a Second Opinion post, then please do not name the shops specifically. That will get the post deleted. This is not a review forum for specific shops. RIP-OFFS, SCAMS, & SECOND OPINIONS It is not against the rules if you are asking about a second opinion on a quote from a shop.
However, please observe rule #1 when asking for a second opinion. It is considered rude to ask, “Is the shop trying to fleece me?” “Am I getting Ripped Off?” or similar. You wouldn’t ask “Why are all cops pigs?” on, ask about Creationism on, or talk about vaccines causing autism on. Generally there is a good reason why a repair costs what it does. I have a Hunter P411 alignment machine which is run by a somewhat normal Windows 95 computer. Trouble is, the Win95 startup files got corrupted somehow and now I'm supposed to reinstall the operating system to fix it.
I'm worried that once I do that the system files for the Winalign software will disappear. I do have some disks and a CD which may or may not be the entire installation. It was preinstalled when I purchased it. I have another PC that has the same specs from a simliar alignment machine and already has the Winalign software on it and I tried swapping it but it stops with an error saying some Hunter Keys are not authorized (whatever that means). Anybody out there that can give me some ideas? If you have the original install media for WinAlign, then you shouldn't have any issues installing it on the fresh install of Windows 95.
I'd highly suggest going to Windows 98 SE as it's much more stable and shouldn't have any compatibility issues with WinAlign. You could test this in a virtual machine like VirtualBox which helps you create a 'imaginary' computer setup on modern-day equipment. Another option, rather than worrying abour losing your current setup, you could attempt repair your Windows 95 install. There are many automated tools available online to fix startup issues. Use Google to search for the error you're getting during startup to help you establish what is wrong and what tools you'll need.
This will take more time than just reinstalling Windows, but you won't have to reinstall or configure anything you already have installed.
